Physical filtration devices, often employing a continuously rotating cylindrical screen (typically with 20-100μm pore size), mechanically capture suspended solids like uneaten feed and feces. As the drum rotates, captured solids are lifted out of the water flow and cleaned off by high-pressure spray bars or backwash, directing waste to a separate drain. Serving as the essential primary filtration unit in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), these devices routinely remove over 80% of solid impurities. This dramatically reduces the load on downstream biological filters, preventing clogging and maintaining optimal water quality for fish health. Their reliability and continuous operation make them critical for high-density culture systems and hatcheries, minimizing manual cleaning labor and conserving water compared to passive screens.
